About Allison:
Allison Carpenter is the Classrooms for the Future Technology Coach for Pocono Mountain East High School in Swiftwater, Pennsylvania. She is responsible for supporting teachers as they integrate technology into curriculum in a meaningful and engaging way for high school students. Allison has a Bachelor of Music from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania and worked as a Music Therapist for seven year with elementary-aged students in partial hospitalization programs. She received a Master of Science in Special Education from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2003. Allison worked as a Special Education teacher for three years before taking on the position she currently holds. Last year, Allison was nominated for a STAR award from CIU 20 for her efforts in creating 21st Century teaching and learning projects as a CFF Technology Coach. This is Allison's second year in the MAGPI Fellows program.
She is Christopher's wife, soon to be a mom (February 2010), dog mommy to the cutest cuddle pup Buttercup and new owner of a 1960's saltbox-style home in Forty Fort, Pennsylvania. She also teaches saxophone and clarinet lessons and performs regularly with the Wilkes University Civic Band.
My Schedule:
My schedule varies from day to day depending on the projects that I am assisting teachers and students with, but if you send me an email I usually reply within 24 hours or less.
Quick Response:
What I love best about my job:
Seeing teachers and students light up when technology has taken a project above and beyond their expectations.
What challenges me the most:
Staying current on the many new changes in technology so that I can share these changes in a meaningful way with the teachers and students who I support.
Favorite Ice Cream Flavor:
Chocolate Peanut Butter
What I'm reading right now:
Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin and What to Expect When You're Expecting by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel
My favorite book of all time:
Like many others, I cannot really narrow it down to one, but if I had to pick...The Princess Bride by William Goldman.
What I'm watching:
Bravo's Top Chef and USA's Psych
My childhood nickname:
My dad still calls me "Angel."
One thing I couldn't live without:
My 60lb. Old English Bulldog, Buttercup
Best advice I ever got:
Don't sweat the small stuff...it's all small stuff!
The one thing I'm hoping to learn this year during the Fellows Program:
How to create student centered programs that can easily be replicated by teachers anywhere.
